Acquired by the Town of Wheatfield for creation of a public waterfront park.

Past illegal dumping resulted in various fill material throughout the site.

Environmental testing found low levels of arsenic, lead, mercury, and barium in certain parts of the site.
Remediation

$425,000 grant awarded from the NCBDC to address site contamination.

Remediation will address fill material that is contaminated with metals.

The preferred remedial alternative is to remove the hotspot areas.
Redevelopment Efforts

The proposed redevelopment is for a waterfront public park.

The park will provide a recreational opportunity along the Niagara River Shoreline Trail.
